The Power of Passion in Storytelling

There are many ways to begin a good story, but expressing a passion is one of my favorites. Passion for a quest. Passion for a character. Passion for anything. Passion makes a story come alive.
The word “passion” comes from the Latin “passio,” which means “suffering” or “enduring.” Its original meaning related to Christ’s suffering on the Cross; however, the word has evolved over time and is now commonly used to describe a deep commitment to a cause, devotion, or person.
Think about a time when someone told you a story with passion. It may have been a singer explaining her inspiration for a song, a friend describing the feeling of reaching Kilimanjaro’s summit, or even a grandfather telling his grandson about paying 5 cents to watch the Philadelphia Athletics play at old Shibe Park, from the rooftop of a nearby house (thanks, Granddaddy).
Speaking of baseball, my son and I recently rewatched Field of Dreams. This classic develops several subplots in which strong emotions drive the characters: Ray’s compulsion to build the field after hearing the voices; Moonlight Graham’s desire for just one at-bat in the Majors; and Terrence Mann’s excitement about writing the story of what is beyond the cornfield.
One subplot in particular got me this time. Just before we watched the movie, I began writing a Substack about how small businesses can pour their passion for their craft into their copywriting. Seeing Shoeless Joe Jackson’s passion for his craft (baseball) really struck a chord.
Shortly after magically emerging from an Iowa cornfield, Shoeless Joe says to Ray, “Man, I did love this game.”
The one-time Chicago White Sox outfielder then looks toward the newly created baseball field with awe on his face. How he got there and the identity of the man from the farmhouse do not matter. Shoeless Joe is back on a baseball field.
“I’d ‘a played for food money,” Shoeless Joe says, “It was the game. The sounds, the smells.” His eyes are wide and the joy on his face is palpable. “The crowd would rise to its feet when the ball was hit deep… Shoot, I’d ‘a played for nothing.”

Passion. Pure passion for the game of baseball and pure joy at the opportunity to somehow play it again. I felt a connection that made the story come alive for me.
When it comes to storytelling, passion is the essential ingredient.
Passion, when channeled productively, is a powerful force that can drive people to achieve great things. It is a spark that ignites creativity and inspires action. Passion fuels us with the motivation necessary to put in the time and effort to succeed in any area of life, from sports to business to the arts.
When it comes to storytelling, passion is the essential ingredient. In The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho writes, “The best stories are born out of the writer’s own passion. If you’re not passionate about what you’re writing, then the reader won’t be either.” Passion is contagious—it engages the audience and transports them to another world, evokes strong emotions, and stays with them long after the final page has been turned.
One received link a gold watch after link years of link service to a company. It was the retirement timepiece, or the watch that proved your worth. It might have been overshadowed by the Black Bay 54, but there's no question it was a hit. It also was the link perfect color for the 49ers' unlikely star, mixing red and gold.
CURIC: link In the interior you'll find link the woven metal mesh that they have at Shinola through the console, to the middle, to the back seats. It's basically link taking something small like a timepiece from Shinola and scaling it up to something much larger like a vehicle.

I have to think that the Meylan family that owns Moser was (perhaps unintentionally) influenced link by all the recent online goodwill that's been generated by link lime lovers and decided to name today's pre-Watches & link Wonders '22 release after it. (We'd be reading a very different type of introductory article if this was the "Endeavour Centre Seconds Concept Green Apple.")
